Origins of the Tower Daijingu
(Great Shinto Shrine of the Tower)

The Tower Daijingu was opened on July 11th 1977 to mark the 20th anniversary (May 8th, 1957) of the establishment of the TOKYO TOWER Co., Ltd., the company that operates Tokyo Tower, to offer prayers for business prosperity and safety of tower visitors.

As a sign of gratitude for 50 years of successful operations, Tokyo tower underwent a major renovation on December 23rd 2008. Moreover, in July 2019, the shrine underwent a complete restoration in conjunction with a major renovation of the observation deck.

Ever since, the shrine continues its protective gaze from the observation deck over the safety and business success of daily tower visitors, broadcasters, related companies, and local citizenry alike.
